How to See Someone's New Followers on Instagram
Instagram won't show you directly. Other people's follower lists carry no dates and no 'new' label, and there has been no activity feed for other accounts' follows since 2019. What works is comparing a public account's follower list over time: by hand for small accounts, or with a tracker such as SpySecret, which saves the list and shows who newly appears after each scan, with the time the scan found them.

What Instagram shows, and to whom
When someone follows you, Instagram tells you in your notifications, and the account shows up in your own Followers list. Those notices go only to the account that was followed. Nobody else gets a feed of who just followed whom.
On another person's public profile, you can open the Followers list, scroll through it and search it for a name. That tells you who is on the list right now. It doesn't tell you when anyone joined, and Instagram doesn't promise any particular order, as our look at Instagram's following list order explains. If the profile is private, its lists are visible only to followers the owner has approved.
Method 1: watch the follower count
The quickest signal is the number on the profile. If it goes from 2,340 to 2,361 overnight, the account gained at least 21 followers, and more if others left at the same time. That tells you something changed, not who it was. Counts also drop when followers deactivate their accounts or the owner removes them, so a steady number can hide quite a lot of movement in both directions.
Method 2: compare the list by hand
For a small account you can do what any tracker does, only slower:
- Open the account's Followers list and take screenshots, or copy the usernames into a note.
- Come back after a day or a week and do the same again.
- Compare the two: names on the second list but not on the first are new followers, names that disappeared have left.
- If you only care about one particular person, type their username into the search field of the Followers list instead of scrolling.
Method 3: let a tracker do the comparison
Comparing by hand works up to a few hundred followers. Beyond that, scrolling and matching names gets slow and error-prone, and you only learn what changed between your two visits. SpySecret automates the comparison for public accounts. Enter the username, and the first scan, which is free, saves who follows the account right now. From then on, each scan checks the follower list against the saved state and lists the accounts that newly appear, with the time of the scan that spotted them. You don't need an Instagram account, and SpySecret does not notify the account owner.
How soon you see a new follower depends on the plan. Basic scans each tracked profile once a day, so a follower who arrives this afternoon shows up after the next daily scan. Basic costs €0.99 per week or €2.99 per month and covers up to 5 profiles. With Pro, at €8.99 per week or €29.99 per month, your main Spy profile is scanned about every hour and the others once a day, and you can add a few manual scans per day. Results appear when you open SpySecret; there is no alert feature.
Typical uses are low-key: watching how the audience of a creator or public figure you follow grows, or keeping an eye on a club or community page you help run. SpySecret is meant for personal, non-commercial use, as our terms state.
Limits to know before you rely on it
A tracker can only compare what it can see, and only from the day you start.
- Public accounts only. If an account turns private, there is nothing to compare; if it goes public again while you track it on a paid plan, the next scheduled scan picks it up.
- It starts when you start. The first scan is the baseline. Followers who were already there are part of the starting list, not new.
- Detection time, not follow time. A follower found by today's scan arrived at some point since the previous scan.
- Large accounts are read in part. Each scan reads the first page of the follower list, in the order Instagram returns it, and lists up to 200 new entries. Instagram doesn't guarantee that this order is chronological, so for accounts with many followers a new follower further down can appear late or be missed, and an earlier follower can show up as new. Read the results for large accounts as a sample of new followers, not a full log.
- No alerts. You see new followers when you open SpySecret after a scan.
New followers or new follows? Don't mix them up
The two get confused all the time. New followers are accounts that started following a profile. New follows are accounts the profile itself started following. SpySecret tracks both directions for public profiles. If your real question is whom someone just followed, read can you see who someone recently followed on Instagram, which compares the methods for that direction.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see someone's newest followers on Instagram?
Not inside Instagram. Follower lists show no dates and no 'new' marker. You can compare a public account's list over time, by hand or with a tracker that saves snapshots of its followers.
Is there a way to see someone else's new followers without an Instagram account?
Yes, for public accounts. SpySecret reads public follower lists without your Instagram login. You only enter the username of the account you're interested in.
Will the account owner know I'm checking their followers?
Instagram doesn't notify anyone when their follower list is viewed, and SpySecret doesn't notify the account owner either.
Can I see new followers of a private account?
No. A private account's follower list is visible only to followers the owner has approved. SpySecret works with public accounts only.
How quickly does SpySecret show a new follower?
After the next scan: within about a day on Basic, and within about an hour for your main Spy profile on Pro. The time shown is when the scan found the follower, not the moment they followed.
