Ipcress File Trailer
November 24th, 2008 by thrandurMy favorite spy movie is the Ipcress File. It starred Michael Caine, Nigel Green, and Sue Lloyed. It was directed by Sidney Furie.
I liked this movie for a number of reasons. First, it introduced me to Michael Caine whose movies I have greatly enjoyed since. Second, the movie had a dark almost noir quality about it that I found very appealing. Third, the plot had a number of twists and turns that kept my inerest from the start to the finish. Fourth, the main character, Harry Palmer, had an everyman quality about him: he wasn't a James Bond, super hero type but rather a "working man" in many ways.
The plot involves unraveling the hows and whys of the disappearance of several prominent British scientists. It turns out that they have been brainwashed. The title of he move, IPCRESS stands for Induction of Psycho-neuroses by Conditioned Reflex under strESS.
The movie also introduced me to the works of Len Deighton, upon whose novel the movie was based. I have enjoyed his works over the years as well.
