My favorite spy movie is The Saint starring Val Kilmer. In The Saint, Val Kilmer plays a spy who is assigned to go after a formula a young girl is working on for cold fusion. In the process, he ends up falling in love with her.
Kilmer wears so many cool disguises and is a master of deception. This, more than any special gadget, is what I really love about the movie. It makes me think that I could become a good enough actor and get good enough with makeup and other things to go around and become whoever I want!
I also love it because of the added love story element. So many spy movies are lacking this, which is a deterrent to many women.
While I love spy movies in general, they would be even more attractive if they all had a true love story element like The Saint. I also love that though Kilmer’s character is morally ambiguous in the beginning, by the end of the movie you see where his heart truly lies.
My favorite spy movie is and always will be Goldfinger.
I was about 14 years of age when the movie came out. While I was returning from swimming practice several friends (who were older) convinced me to go see Goldfinger. I was in awe as the opening credits rolled. I went to the Hershey Theater in Hershey PA and can still see the movie in my mind as I sat in the seat wide eyed. As a 14 year old male this movie was engrossing and sexy.
The movie starred Sean Connery as James Bond and Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore. The two were dynamite together. The director was Guy Hamilton.
The plot was as follows: Investigating a gold magnate’s gold smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve. I loved the revolving license plate which was used after Bond started getting too many tickets! That would be something to have today as I drive on Interstate 95.
I love Goldfinger because it brings back my youth when there was an innocence to life. The movie was full of energy and Bond was so suave. Pussy Galore was every young boy’s dream girl for sure. I could imagine myself in her arms and being James Bond escaping from all the snares and trials that were placed upon him.
My favorite spy movie is the Ipcress File. It starred Michael Caine, Nigel Green, and Sue Lloyed. It was directed by Sidney Furie.
I liked this movie for a number of reasons. First, it introduced me to Michael Caine whose movies I have greatly enjoyed since. Second, the movie had a dark almost noir quality about it that I found very appealing. Third, the plot had a number of twists and turns that kept my inerest from the start to the finish. Fourth, the main character, Harry Palmer, had an everyman quality about him: he wasn’t a James Bond, super hero type but rather a “working man” in many ways.
The plot involves unraveling the hows and whys of the disappearance of several prominent British scientists. It turns out that they have been brainwashed. The title of he move, IPCRESS stands for Induction of Psycho-neuroses by Conditioned Reflex under strESS.
The movie also introduced me to the works of Len Deighton, upon whose novel the movie was based. I have enjoyed his works over the years as well.
I don’t know if this movie really counts as a spy movie, but I really enjoyed watching Aeon Flux, starring Charlize Theron.
It was quite a long time since I had watched it but there are a few scenes that I remember which include awesome stunts by Charlize Theron. There was one scene where she was running and almost fell into rigged grass which turned really sharp and she was able to stop herself from falling.
The movie was based on a totalitarian utopia some few centuries in the future, however, the weapons used were just simple machine guns. So there was nothing special about the weapons but the way they were used was amazing because Charlize Theron had really great fighting skills.
It was a very original movie using never before seen stunts. Not just that, but the leading role was a female and being female myself, I love to see female agents.
My favority spy movie is the Bourne trilogy, but everybody out there probably knows all there is to know about Mr. Jason Bourne. I’d like to share about another of the most fascinating spies out there: Sydney Bristow. The show “Alias” lasted only five seasons, but let me tell ya - they were an awesome five seasons. Alias stars Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow. She was trained as a young child to be a spy (she doesn’t find that out ’til the second season) by her father Jack Bristow (played by Victor Garber). She is approached while in college by what she thinks is a CIA recruiter but is actually an SD6 recruiter. SD6 is bad news - I don’t have enough space to describe how bad these people are! When her fiance is murdered by SD6, Sydney tries to get out of it. Her father, who also works for SD6 comes after her and explains that SD6 isn’t really a part of the CIA and Sydney flips! She goes to the real CIA, where she meets the love of her life Michael Vaughan, and becomes a double agent. She also finds out that her father is acting as a double agent. Every episode is filled with adventure, excitement and susupense. The disguises she wears and the accents she uses is amazing! It’s a delectable series brought to you by J.J. Abrams and I would definitely recommend it to any and all spy lovers!
Bourne Identity Music Video to Flat On The Floor by Nickelback - really cool rock music.
Flat On The Floor by Nickelback is copyright by Roadrunner Records
I love the Bourne Identity. It’s a smart movie starring Matt Damon and based on excellent books by Robert Ludlum, and directed by Doug Liman, who also made “Swingers” and “Go”, which indicated it would perhaps me a movie friendly to my cynical (yet still adoring of a silly action movie) generation . The movie concentrates more on intelligence and is less gadget-obsessed than a lot of spy movies. It is slightly more believable as well — even though it contains some of the more outrageous and overused devices of the spy narrative: amnesia and Swiss bank accounts.
My favorite spy movie is The Departed by Martin Scorsese. There are many reasons why I consider this my favorite spy movie. It’s based on a true story about mobsters in South Boston. However, the movie itself does contain a lot of fiction.
Little did my father know that when he asked me if I would be interested in watching this James Bond film known as Goldfinger, that he had launched me into permanent fandon for the spy genre. Since I was fourteen, I have been a massive fan of all things spy related, from the Saint to the Bourne series.
When I look back on everything, though, I have to say that Goldfinger still is dear to my heart. Sean Connery was and still is James Bond and every man wants to be James Bond.
